Privacy Policy — Shelfmark
Shelfmark is an offline register that records where your physical paper
documents are kept. It is built so that there is almost nothing to write a
privacy policy about, and this document explains exactly why.
1. What we collect
- There is no account, no sign-in and no registration.
- The app does not declare the
INTERNETpermission. It is technically
incapable of sending anything anywhere.
- There is no analytics, no crash reporting and no advertising SDK.
- No advertising identifier, device identifier or installation identifier is
read, generated or stored.
- No data is shared with any third party, because no data leaves the device.
2. What you type in
Everything you enter — paper names, categories, issuers, reference notes,
places, containers, the names of people holding your documents, notes and dates
— is written to a database inside the app's private storage on your own device.
That storage is readable only by Shelfmark, is not accessible to other apps,
and is removed when you uninstall the app.
Shelfmark deliberately stores no images of your documents. The reference
field asks for a hint such as "ends 4471" rather than a complete account or
identity number, and the interface says so at the point of entry.
3. Permissions
Shelfmark requests no permissions of any kind, including no runtime
permissions.
Exporting or restoring a backup uses Android's own file picker (the Storage
Access Framework). The system grants Shelfmark access to exactly the one file
you select, for that operation only. No storage permission is requested and no
folder is readable.
4. Backups
There are two kinds of backup, and they behave differently.
destination through the Android file picker and the system writes the file
there. The file is plain, unencrypted JSON. Shelfmark never uploads it. If you
save it into a folder that is synchronised to a cloud service, that service's
own privacy policy applies to the copy it holds — so treat the file like any
other document containing personal notes.
copy the app's database to your own Google account if you have that feature
enabled on your device. This is Google's backup of your own data under your own
account, and is governed by Google's terms. Theme and display preferences are
excluded from it. You can turn Android backup off for Shelfmark in your
device's settings.
5. Children
Shelfmark is a general-purpose household utility and is not directed at
children. It collects no data from anyone, including children.
6. Your control over your data
- Export — take a complete copy at any time, in an open, readable format.
- Erase all data — a single confirmed action deletes the whole register
from the device. It is irreversible.
- Uninstall — removes the app's private storage entirely.
There is no server-side copy to request, correct or delete, because there is no
server.
7. Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the updated version ships with the app and is published
at https://kdlbiosimulate.online/shelfmark-privacy-policy.html. Material changes will be noted in the release notes.
